Here here is a story board I have done from the AWESOME short film "The Present". Exercise done for the second class assignment of the storyboard course of the online school Schoolism.com.
For me this short is a masterpiece of animation, because with very few ingredients; 3 characters, 1 cardboard box a red ball, one set and 3:33 mins of film Mr Jacob Frey creates a compelling story that drove me into tears the first time I watched it.
Doing this storyboard exercise I learnt about rhythm and it allowed me to closely observe how the camera language helps to follow this character based story I realized how the right dosage of actions helps to maintain the interest and in a very natural way goes developing of the arc of the story during the whole time.
My highlights are
-How the acting without help of dialog tells the story.
-The use of the set and environment helps to understand the psychology of the scene
-The cuts are very cleverly crafted. I loved the way how the red ball is introduced on the story trough a POV that spins at the fast amusing way of the puppy.
-The actions are so well choreographed that look totally natural, they made me forget that I was watching a 3d animation.
